About Me

Cecily Anders, PsyD

Whether you're struggling with OCD, bipolar disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, or another challenge that's disrupting your life, therapy should leave you feeling understood, supported, and equipped with tools that actually work.

For years, I've worked with clients in hospitals, residential treatment programs, outpatient clinics, and private practice. I enjoy working with people who have been told they're too complicated or whose previous therapy didn't quite fit.

My approach is evidence-based, collaborative, and tailored to you. No two people experience mental health the same way, so no two therapy plans should look exactly alike.

Availability: I provide in-person therapy in Ithaca, NY, and virtual therapy via telehealth for clients across New York, Colorado and Pennsylvania.

My Specialities

My Approach

Therapy isn't about fixing who you are. It's about helping you understand how your mind works so you can respond differently to the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that have been keeping you stuck.

Clients often describe me as encouraging, warm, and practical. I'm also a creative person, so I enjoy adapting therapy to each client. Although I take your concerns seriously, we'll often find moments to laugh together. Therapy doesn't have to feel heavy every minute to create meaningful change.

I work with clients whether they're taking medication or not, and I regularly collaborate with psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals when it supports your goals.

My Background

Long before becoming a psychologist, I worked in research at the Golden Bear Sleep and Mood Research Clinic at the University of California, Berkeley, studying sleep difficulties related to bipolar disorder. My graduate and postdoctoral training included work in Veterans Administration hospitals and clinics, adolescent residential treatment, juvenile justice settings, community clinics, and the Soho CBT + Mindfulness Center in New York City.

Along the way, I developed a reputation among other therapists for taking on more complex cases. I genuinely enjoy helping people who feel like they haven't found the right fit elsewhere.

Living with OCD has also shaped the therapist I am today. I understand firsthand how important accurate diagnosis and evidence-based treatment can be because I experienced years of being misunderstood myself. My personal experience allows me to bring both professional expertise and lived understanding into my work.

Outside the therapy office, I'm a writer, my husband is a pianist, and many of my clients work in creative fields. I understand both the strengths and challenges that often come with creative minds. At home, my Goldendoodle, Lucky, makes sure my life is filled with silliness and activity.
